I like the BA215 form factor, but not the CPU options. Does anyone know, did DEC ever build a VAX that was more similar hardware-wise to a 4000-700 (where the CPU wasn't on the QBus directly) but was in an enclosure more similar in size to the BA215?

Thanks in advance!

The were two options for speeding up that system.

1. VAX 4000 Model 50. This was a brick that contained DZ ports, SCSI, DSSI, and memory and ran at 20 VUPS.

I think if you could find a way to power a VAX 4000 Model 50, that it could run with out a q-bus attached.

2. VAX 4000 Model 1xx with the Q-BUS adapter. These were desktop size boxes with cables to a Q-BUS adapter. The fastest one was 38 VUPS, which is a bit slower than the VAX 4000 Model 700.

Nice find on the VAX 4000-50 "VAXbrick"!! I'd never heard of them! Looks like the quick specs show that the 4000-50 is supported in the BA215.
I did know about the desktop VAX 4000's with the QBus adapter, but then the brains aren't really in the BA215.

So, anyone on here ever seen a VAXbrick, or have one (and/or a BA215, preferably with VAX 4000 badges) they'd be willing to sell?

I'd also be really interested in re-acquiring a 4000 VLC. I'm kicking myself for having sold mine a few years ago...

Many, many thanks!

No more VAX hobbyist licenses. Community licenses for Alpha/IA64/X86_64 VMS Software Inc. Commercial VMS software licenses for VAX available from HPE.

Just re-visiting.. No more hobbyist licenses? Is that from vmssoftware.com, no 'community' licenses?

I recall that the disks failed on the public access VMS systems that included Fafner

Anyone know what happened to FAFNER.DYNDS.ORG? I had a hobbyist account here but can longer access the site.

At one time, didn't this web site have a job board? I would love to use my legacy skills one last time in my career.

New Hobbyist PAKs for VAX/VMS are no longer available according to reports. Only commercial licenses are reported to be for sale from HPE

Eisner, which is currently being moved, got an SSH update and the keys were updated to more modern encryption standards.
