Hi!
This is for the old timers among us...
I have to rebuilt a production machine (built around a VMS Station II) using uVMS 4.5, YEP 4.5
cannot upgrade the OS.
I have all/most TK50 tapes and floppies but I cannot locate the license keys ( PAK Equivalent prior to VMS 5)..
The Machine is still functioning and I have access to all the files on the 2 disk (RA81 and RA82).
so my 2 question are:
Q1: How can I know what licenses are installed on the system?
Q2: Since uVMS is not using LICENSE.LDB, what files can I keep, to copied on the rebuilt system?

Sorry for the late reply...
VMS versions prior to 5 do not have licence PAKs that can be loaded onto the system as far as I am aware. This is why there is no LMF$LICENSE.LDB file. I believe the licences were just a sheet of paper (certificate) that listed the name of the product and usually the serial number of the machine that it was licenced for.

Claude, are you seeing any specific error messages concerning licenses or is the system denying you anything in specific, such as interactive login access to the system for lack of a license? If you're not, then perhaps ignorance is bliss?
I don't even remember there being any restrictions like that before the advent of LMF, but my not remembering them certainly doesn't mean there weren't any! If you're getting any specific error messages, they would help considerably to jog my memory. |
