Installation hangs forever here:

(yes I know the HDD is small, it's irrelevant, VMS hangs even if no HDD is installed) |

Thanks for the reply!
The RZ23L is in there just to serve as an example, although I used a tailored OpenVMS 7.2 with it on my VAXstation. I'm currently trying to dig up some larger drives.
I'm not sure of what bus I have, it has PCI-like sockets (though obviously it's not PCI inside). It has a SCSI controller in it, right now the external CD drive is plugged in that. Even if I don't use that bus, VMS still doesn't boot. Should I try with that controller removed?

The enclosure says 3900, but yes it's just the outside. I've just received this box.
>>>sho dev

KA57 should be VAX 4000 series. There was a leftover OpenBSD on the RZ23, it says:
VAX 4000 105A [13002202 03210B01]
According to the OpenSSL speedtest it's 60% the performance of a 150Mhz 21064.
I'll verify termination. What's with the pci-socketed bus inside? |

I removed the scsi card, and used only the internal scsi controller. Hooked up like this: controller - hdd - [external] - cdrom - terminator.
VMS still hangs up.
Anyways this is how the extracted card looks like.

For the record, I tried placing the whole bus onto the card, also replaced the RZ23 with an RZ28, VMS still won't boot.

I have one box. The CD-RW drive is Plextor px-w4220Ti. The only unusual jumpers are labelled "TEST" and "BLOCK".
The CD is from Montagar, new.
I tried to workaround the problem by extracting the B saveset under SIMH, and dumping the image onto the HDD. It worked, but it looks like VMS can't mount the CD:

This could be a sector size problem, right? |

Sidenote: it doesn't matter whether the BLOCK jumper is on or off.
Looks like I'll have to get another CD drive to install VMS. |
