OK, I'm not sure where the problem exists, but when I type HELP BACKUP_Command on my OpenVMS VAX V7.3 system, it lists /CONVERT as a valid qualifier. Unfortunately, when I attempt to use this qualifier, I get an "unrecognized qualifier" error. I have an ODS-5 saveset that I want to restore on an ODS-2 disk.
Do I have an issue with the installation of OpenVMS on my VAX or is there a patch that enables this qualifier (or is there a way to update the command with the qualifier)? Any help would be appreciated.

VAX machines do not support ODS5. Provide the conversion on an Alpha machin eor Integrity and then backup the ODS2 for restoration on the VAX.
The /CONVERT switch creates ODS2 compatible filenames from an ODS5 disk whcn the saveset is created. In other words, you need to create the backup saveset on a system that supports ODS5. This saveset can then be restored onto a VAX ODS2 disk. The conversion takes place during the saveset creation.
Hope this helps,

I attempted to use /convert once and never will again. It attempts to make a temporary copy of the files in the saveset while it does the conversion, so you need more free space than the original saveset. |

Hi abrsvc,
Unfortunately, I found out the wrong way the OpenVMS VAX does support ODS5, partially. I only have a VAX running now, so going to an Alpha is not an option. I was able to set the volume to ODS5, but it caused all kinds of problems. I ended up having to create a new ODS2 volume and copy the files using ZIP/UNZIP (backup would not do it and regular file copy kept failing). As stated, the /COVERT qualifier is documented in the HELP, but not available in the DCLTABLES.
