Hi,

My DS10L has USB ports on the back.
Any idea if I can boot 8.3 of a USB CD-ROM?

Thanks,

Unfourtunally the built in USB ports are not supported by VMS. There are PCI USB cards that are.

See Freeware V7 CD 3

I just picked up a Belkin USB 2.0 interface card at Office Depot. The card uses the NEC 720101 chip. OpenVMS recognizes it as a USB interface card and loads OHDRIVER but OHA0: and OHB0: stay offline. No, loss, I'll throw the card in an old Pentium system that only has USB 1.1 ports.

it's probably feasible to extend a cable out of the box and connect to an externally-powered IDE ATAPI CD or DVD drive.

I ran a ribbon cable out the back of mine, into an old PC case holding a DVD drive and another HDD (plus power supply), and it works just fine.

I just need to get the floppy drive to work. smiley

I also wonder if I can get the system to write with the drive.

No more VAX hobbyist licenses. Community licenses for Alpha/IA64/X86_64 VMS Software Inc. Commercial VMS software licenses for VAX available from HPE.

Just re-visiting.. No more hobbyist licenses? Is that from vmssoftware.com, no 'community' licenses?

I recall that the disks failed on the public access VMS systems that included Fafner

Anyone know what happened to FAFNER.DYNDS.ORG? I had a hobbyist account here but can longer access the site.

At one time, didn't this web site have a job board? I would love to use my legacy skills one last time in my career.

New Hobbyist PAKs for VAX/VMS are no longer available according to reports. Only commercial licenses are reported to be for sale from HPE

See the forum about licensing. Don't know if HPE hobby licenses still being issued. Commercial licenses still being sold.

Eisner, which is currently being moved, got an SSH update and the keys were updated to more modern encryption standards.
