I am a newbie, trying to edit the file SYS$MANAGERECW$PRIVATE_SERVER_SETUP.COM.
I successfully copied the template file using the COPY command.
Aslo the DIR command works.
When I type:
EDIT SYS$MANAGERECW$PRIVATE_SERVER_SETUP.COM
I get the following error:
%TPU-E-NONANSICRT, SYS$INPUT must be supported CRT
I searched google and found the command: SET TERMINAL/INQUIRE
But that fails as well! It comes back with:
%SET-W-NOTSET, error modifying OPA0:
I bought a DEC 433au workstation off eBay. I am not entirely sure what the graphics card is. It is plugged into a 64bit PCI slot, and is extremely large in size. On one chip it has CIRRUS LOGIC, CL-GD5424-80QC-C. Does anyone know what that is? Does OpenVMS has the equivalent of "lspci" (from Linux)?
At the moment I am stuck at editing a text file which is very annoying. Please help.
I get the following error:
%TPU-E-NONANSICRT, SYS$INPUT must be supported CRT
I searched google and found the command: SET TERMINAL/INQUIRE
That's correct. The error message says that the editor (EVE in this case) doesn't know what terminal type you have, which it must know to be able to do screen editing.
The command tells VMS to ask the terminal for its type.
But that fails as well! It comes back with:
%SET-W-NOTSET, error modifying OPA0:
That sounds like you're sitting at the "glass TTY", i.e. a graphical operator's console without DECwindows being started - white characters on a blue background. That "terminal" has very limited terminal capabilities.
Three ideas to get around it:
- get a serial cable to connect the (first) serial port of the Alpha to a PC, and run a terminal emulator (e.g. PuTTY) to connect to it.
- use
$ SET TERMINAL/DEVICE=VT52 OPA0
and (try to use) EDIT/EDT in screen mode - from my experience: very limited.
- EDIT/EDT has a line mode which doesn't require terminal capabilities (think DOS' edlin). Even more limited.
