I have an DEC 433au and it came with OpenVMS 7.3-2. I am a newbie....
I installed OpenVMS and because there was no valid license it started in text mode.
I got a license from here (thank you) but now DecWindows is stuffing up.
When the computer boots the screen goes blank. I think DecWindows is trying to start in a high resolution (above 1024x768). Buying a new monitor is one solution that I am not considering....
I want to get OpenVMS back into text mode so I can edit the DecWindows config files.
I tried the following after reading the FAQs etc:
-At srm prompt boot -flags 0,1
-At sysboot prompt SHOW WINDOW_SYSTEM - this shows it as 1
-Then SET WINDOW_SYSTEM 0
- SHOW WINDOW_SYSTEM - this shows 0
- CONTINUE
After that OpenVMS boots but it STILL blacks out the screen.
