I'd like to add a new user on my system
alpha (the user) should have his "home dir" as
dka1500:[users.alpha]

according to the manual:
$ SET DEFAULT SYS$SYSTEM
$ RUN AUTHORIZE
UAF>
# Use the AUTHORIZE command ADD to specify attributes in the UAF fields as shown in the following example:

UAF> ADD JONES/PASSWORD=LPB57WM/UIC=[014,1] -
_UAF> /DEVICE=DISK$USER/DIRECTORY=[JONES] -
_UAF> /LGICMD=DISK$USER:[NEWPROD]GRPLOGIN -
_UAF> /OWNER="ROBERT JONES"/ACCOUNT=DOC

but to me is not clear what DISK$USER should be

on my system disk is dka1500

if i set
add alpha/password=temp/owner="alpha user"/DEVICE=dka1500/DIRECTORY=[us
ers.alpha]/uic=[200,224]/flag=nodisuser

as I login as alpha , the sh def says
DKA1500:[USERS.ALPHA]
%DCL-I-INVDEF, dka1500:[users.alpha] does not exist

what am I doing in the wrong way? smiley

mmmh... *maybe* my error was not creating the dir
I thought were "automatically" created

after ( as system)

crea/dir dka1500:[users.alpha]
set dir/owner=alpha DKA1500:[users.alpha]

r authorize
modify alpha /DEVICE=dka1500/DIRECTORY=[USERS.alpha]

lo & login as alpha

sh def
DKA1500:[USERS.ALPHA]
$

I *hope* was the right way to do it smiley

Yepp. The directory must be created by hand (as well as e.g. copy a LOGIN.COM to it).

To ease things, there's a procedure SYS$EXAMPLES:ADDUSER.COM that does create the directory.

No more VAX hobbyist licenses. Community licenses for Alpha/IA64/X86_64 VMS Software Inc. Commercial VMS software licenses for VAX available from HPE.

Just re-visiting.. No more hobbyist licenses? Is that from vmssoftware.com, no 'community' licenses?

I recall that the disks failed on the public access VMS systems that included Fafner

Anyone know what happened to FAFNER.DYNDS.ORG? I had a hobbyist account here but can longer access the site.

At one time, didn't this web site have a job board? I would love to use my legacy skills one last time in my career.

New Hobbyist PAKs for VAX/VMS are no longer available according to reports. Only commercial licenses are reported to be for sale from HPE

See the forum about licensing. Don't know if HPE hobby licenses still being issued. Commercial licenses still being sold.

Eisner, which is currently being moved, got an SSH update and the keys were updated to more modern encryption standards.
