I'm trying to get VMS 7.3 going using simh and since i don't have a credit card at the moment or access to a copy of the CD's (or even much experience of vax's/vms at all  )
so i downloaded all the vms073.* files from a link on these forums then realised i couldn't just boot off those file's so i googled a bit and discovered i needed to boot to standalone backup mode...no problems found a bootable disk image from charon-vax website and booted that into standalone backup
then i needed a disk image with the vms073.* files on it and it seemed like charon also have a nice little windows program called vaxft.exe that can read/write to a vms image but it does not seem to write the files properly since i put the files into the [000000] folder on the volume since if keeps giving me file not found errors when i try and issue the restore image command yet when i view the files in the vaxft program they are there
anyone know a crafty way of patching the disk image so the boot loader can see the vms073.b file and i can start the install process? |

Hi
I have the same problem with vaxft.exe I moved same files into disk image , I can see them when I do " dir" but when I try to copy them to other disk or even do "type" on then I got the error file not found
I installed OpenVMS alpha v8.3 and working with Personal alpha emulator
Thanks
