I'm trying to get VMS 7.3 going using simh and since i don't have a credit card at the moment or access to a copy of the CD's (or even much experience of vax's/vms at all  )

so i downloaded all the vms073.* files from a link on these forums then realised i couldn't just boot off those file's so i googled a bit and discovered i needed to boot to standalone backup mode...no problems found a bootable disk image from charon-vax website and booted that into standalone backup

then i needed a disk image with the vms073.* files on it and it seemed like charon also have a nice little windows program called vaxft.exe that can read/write to a vms image but it does not seem to write the files properly since i put the files into the [000000] folder on the volume since if keeps giving me file not found errors when i try and issue the restore image command yet when i view the files in the vaxft program they are there smiley

anyone know a crafty way of patching the disk image so the boot loader can see the vms073.b file and i can start the install process?

Hi
I have the same problem with vaxft.exe I moved same files into disk image , I can see them when I do " dir" but when I try to copy them to other disk or even do "type" on then I got the error file not found

I installed OpenVMS alpha v8.3 and working with Personal alpha emulator
Thanks

No more VAX hobbyist licenses. Community licenses for Alpha/IA64/X86_64 VMS Software Inc. Commercial VMS software licenses for VAX available from HPE.

Just re-visiting.. No more hobbyist licenses? Is that from vmssoftware.com, no 'community' licenses?

I recall that the disks failed on the public access VMS systems that included Fafner

Anyone know what happened to FAFNER.DYNDS.ORG? I had a hobbyist account here but can longer access the site.

I'm looking for DECdfs V2.4A kit for VAX. Asking here just in case anyone is still listening.

At one time, didn't this web site have a job board? I would love to use my legacy skills one last time in my career.

New Hobbyist PAKs for VAX/VMS are no longer available according to reports. Only commercial licenses are reported to be for sale from HPE

See the forum about licensing. Don't know if HPE hobby licenses still being issued. Commercial licenses still being sold.

Eisner, which is currently being moved, got an SSH update and the keys were updated to more modern encryption standards.
