[Not really about OpenVMS! Also, cross-posted at comp.os.vms]

Hello.

I am looking for a copy of the distribution of Pathworks 5.0 for OS/2 Warp to add an experimental OS/2 Warp 4.5 Server for e-Business node to the DECnet mix (hobbyist use only). Among other things, I have tried emailing Brian L. Juergensmeyer of http://www.os2ezine.com/v2n7/warpwin.htm, it bounced. I have also checked with Ian Manners of http://os2site.com/. Bitsavers has SPDs and some documentation of an even older Pathworks for OS/2. However, I have not been able to locate a distribution of Pathworks 5.0 or later (or earlier!) for OS/2 so far.

I am also looking for the KIT or distribution of DECnet for Tru64 5.1B (uname reports "OSF1 V5.1 2650 alpha"smiley, also for purely personal hobbyist use, though this one seems to be available only for DECnet/OSI Phase V.

I will be grateful for any pointers to either of these two distributions.

Thank you.

Unfortunately Pathworks server also known as Advanced Server is based on a component that Digital re-licensed from a third party, which licensed it from Microsoft. As such there has never been a hobby license for it.

The pathworks server requires a Client Access License key for clients to connect to it.

Similarly hobby licenses have not been available for the client utilities. However most of them did not check for a license unless they were connecting over SMB.

Hobby licenses for Tru64/OSF-1 along with media were available for $100.00 USD for a while, but seem to to also have disappeared. I do not recall the version. I do not know if those hobby licenses can be reassigned to a new owner.

The last Pathworks client kit that I had only had a good X-11 server and Decnet as the TCP/IP and SMB had been moved into the OS. And not many people bothered to install the DecNET client utilities, they were just purchased for the X-11 server or use of the re-badged terminal emulator.

As far as I know the media was only available on Floppy Disks.

For a while Digital had the some of the binaries available on their public FTP server. Those are no longer available.

Any site other than HPE posting kits for download for Pathworks would be in violation of HPE copyrights.

What you are looking for is a piece of "premium/niche" software that originated for Windows 3.1 / Windows For Workgroups 3.11 and was mostly obsoleted by Windows 95.

And it also did not come to market until just before Windows 95 came out.

Essentially as soon as the TCP/IP won the networking race and was bundled with windows-95, the market for Pathworks decnet client software vanished.

And since this was mostly before cd-roms, not much media was saved.

So it is an uphill battle to find this antique software.

No more VAX hobbyist licenses. Community licenses for Alpha/IA64/X86_64 VMS Software Inc. Commercial VMS software licenses for VAX available from HPE.

I recall that the disks failed on the public access VMS systems that included Fafner

Anyone know what happened to FAFNER.DYNDS.ORG? I had a hobbyist account here but can longer access the site.

At one time, didn't this web site have a job board? I would love to use my legacy skills one last time in my career.

Eisner, which is currently being moved, got an SSH update and the keys were updated to more modern encryption standards.
