Hello,

I have an openvms 7.1 system running under freeaxp, and want to be able to use the HP availabity manager.

I do have correctly install data collector which is distributed as
HP-VMS-AVAIL_MAN_COL-V0301--1.PCSI-DCX_AXPEXE
but in order to use the analizr installed on PC I need also to install the availability dataserver on the alpha
the problem is that this package is distributed only as PCSI$COMPRESSED file
HP-AXPVMS-AVAIL_MAN_ANA_SRVR-V0301--1.PCSI$COMPRESSED

and on my openvms 7.1 my polycenter is:
POLYCENTER Software Installation utility version: V7.2-108
Product Configuration File (PCF) support level: 1
Product Description File (PDF) support level: 5
Product Text File (PTF) support level: 2

I've try to uncopress on alpha openvms 8.3 but the produced PCSI file is then not recognized by POLYCENTER on alpha under OPENVMS 7.1
The following product has been selected:
HP AXPVMS AVAIL_MAN_ANA_SRVR V3.1 Layered Product

Do you want to continue? [YES]

Configuration phase starting ...

You will be asked to choose options, if any, for each selected product and for
any products that may be installed to satisfy software dependency requirements.

HP AXPVMS AVAIL_MAN_ANA_SRVR V3.1: HP Availability Manager Data Analyzer Version 3.1

%PCSI-E-S_OPFAIL, operation failed
%PCSIUI-E-ABORT, operation terminated due to an unrecoverable error condition

I've try to get polycenter update but donot find it.

Does somebody have a solution for me????

Thanks

Images builti on VMS 8.3 have little hope of running on VMS 7.1.

You can use product extract on the VMS 8.3 system to take the kit apart and then figure out how to install it manually on VMS 7.1.

Since the PCSI procedure needs a later version though, I doubt that the images inside will work on VMS 7.1.

You might as on comp.os.vms if someone can provide you with an older version of Availability Manager. IIRC it was included on the VMS distribution media.

Thanks for the answer,

On the web page of HP availability, the actual version is claimed to work on older openvms version,

In fact my main problem is that I'm not able to get the update of the polycenter in order to be able to handle pcsi$compressed files.

I've try to find it no success.

No more VAX hobbyist licenses. Community licenses for Alpha/IA64/X86_64 VMS Software Inc. Commercial VMS software licenses for VAX available from HPE.

Just re-visiting.. No more hobbyist licenses? Is that from vmssoftware.com, no 'community' licenses?

I recall that the disks failed on the public access VMS systems that included Fafner

Anyone know what happened to FAFNER.DYNDS.ORG? I had a hobbyist account here but can longer access the site.

At one time, didn't this web site have a job board? I would love to use my legacy skills one last time in my career.

New Hobbyist PAKs for VAX/VMS are no longer available according to reports. Only commercial licenses are reported to be for sale from HPE

See the forum about licensing. Don't know if HPE hobby licenses still being issued. Commercial licenses still being sold.

Eisner, which is currently being moved, got an SSH update and the keys were updated to more modern encryption standards.
