Hi All.
I'm running 7.2-3 on an DS25 & I am trying to zip up the backup saveset (larger than 4 gig) to FTP them to a windows box for subsequent BU to tape. Tested just FTPing the save set but it is rendered useless for a restore. Downloaded zip30 but when I run "@[.vms]build_zip large" this fails. Sample errors:
$! Compile the sources.
$!
$ cc /define = (LARGE_FILE_SUPPORT, VMS) /object = [.ALPHAL]ZIP.OBJ ZIP.C
%DCL-W-IVVERB, unrecognized command verb - check validity and spelling
\CC\
.
.
%LIBRAR-W-OPENIN, error opening $1$DGA116:[BACKUPS.ZIP30.ALPHAL]CRC32.OBJ;
as input
-RMS-E-FNF, file not found
...............................

Any one tried to install this SW ? or have an alternative that does not include buying a tape drive for the VMS server ?smiley

If this is a commercial installation, you need to hire professional help.

From your post, you are making many elementary mistakes, it is clear you have very little experience with VMS. Not many hobbyist sites have fibre channel disks.

If you are a hobbyist, then you need to start learning more of the very basics about VMS, FTP, Backup, and program development. This forum can help with that.

You do not appear to have the DEC C compiler installed.

Precompiled zip and unzip binaries are usually available on the VMS Freeware disks.

You need to use the "binary" option for FTP transfer of backup savesets.

The VMS file attributes are lost in an FTP and can restored by script on the internet. Just search for restoring VMS backup attributes.

The backup utility in the current version of VMS is able to restore a saveset with out having the file attributes fixed.

No more VAX hobbyist licenses. Community licenses for Alpha/IA64/X86_64 VMS Software Inc. Commercial VMS software licenses for VAX available from HPE.

Just re-visiting.. No more hobbyist licenses? Is that from vmssoftware.com, no 'community' licenses?

I recall that the disks failed on the public access VMS systems that included Fafner

Anyone know what happened to FAFNER.DYNDS.ORG? I had a hobbyist account here but can longer access the site.

At one time, didn't this web site have a job board? I would love to use my legacy skills one last time in my career.

New Hobbyist PAKs for VAX/VMS are no longer available according to reports. Only commercial licenses are reported to be for sale from HPE

See the forum about licensing. Don't know if HPE hobby licenses still being issued. Commercial licenses still being sold.

Eisner, which is currently being moved, got an SSH update and the keys were updated to more modern encryption standards.
