Hello guys! Is there some easy way to bind the COM2 port to the OPA2 console on my Alphaserver DS25? I'm running AXPVMS 8.3

I'd like to be able to run some commands without having to connect a keyboard and mouse to the computer. Also I'd like to keep my settings on the COM1 port, since it's connected to the RMC.

Hi,

the COM2 port (marked <=> 2) at the back of a DS25 (upper DB9 connector) should be TTA0:

Okay, here is some info for you guys who are interested in connecting a terminal to the Alphaserver DS25. The COM1 port is connected to TTB0 on the system. To access this console, you have to wait until you can login on the OPA0 (the standard console). After that you should wait about 10 seconds, then press enter. To access the RMC console, press Escape two times followed by RMC. ( ^]^] RMC ). The RMC console lets you monitor fan speeds, zone temperatures, and even system power on and off.

Good luck guys smiley

Hi,

the naming of the COM1 and COM2 ports inside OpenVMS may depend on the console settings (SERIAL or GRAPHICS) and/or whether you're running DECwindows (SYSGEN parameter WINDOW_SYSTEM).

The DS25, that I'm currently working on has:

COM1 = OPA0:
COM2 = TTA0:

with WINDOW_SYSTEM=0 and CONSOLE = SERIAL

No more VAX hobbyist licenses. Community licenses for Alpha/IA64/X86_64 VMS Software Inc. Commercial VMS software licenses for VAX available from HPE.

Just re-visiting.. No more hobbyist licenses? Is that from vmssoftware.com, no 'community' licenses?

I recall that the disks failed on the public access VMS systems that included Fafner

Anyone know what happened to FAFNER.DYNDS.ORG? I had a hobbyist account here but can longer access the site.

At one time, didn't this web site have a job board? I would love to use my legacy skills one last time in my career.

New Hobbyist PAKs for VAX/VMS are no longer available according to reports. Only commercial licenses are reported to be for sale from HPE

See the forum about licensing. Don't know if HPE hobby licenses still being issued. Commercial licenses still being sold.

Eisner, which is currently being moved, got an SSH update and the keys were updated to more modern encryption standards.
