I tried to make java run on my pws500au.

If I run
@sys$common:[java$150.com]java$check_environment

I got the information to increase the fillm, bytlm and pgflquo parameters.

I already managed to increase the channelcnt value with sysman.

I already tried to modify the user settings with authorize without any success.
Is there any other possibillity to set this (system/default) parameters.

As long as I'm quit new to openvms I would appreciate any help on that point.

By with out any success, what commands exact commands did you use and what precisely happened?

Many of the quotas for user accounts can be overridden by minimum values of the PQL_* class of parameters. See the online OpenVMS documentation for what they are.

VMS has an interesting newbie trap for modifying the file with the user settings. When you start authorize, if it does not find the user file either with a logical name (preferred by me) or in the default directory, it offers to create a new one. If you let it do that, you end up with a private user authorization file that is totally ignored by anyone else.

Since the default directory for the SYSTEM account is SYS$SPECIFIC:[SYSMGR],SYS$COMMON:[SYSMGR] and the UAF file resides in SYS$COMMON:[SYSEXE], it is very easy for a newbie to have an accident.

The other trap for newbies is having an accident where you end up with a SYSUAF file in SYS$SPECIFIC:[sysexe] in addition to the one in SYS$COMMON. Unless you are an expert, there should only be one SYSUAF file per cluster and it normally is in SYS$COMMON:[SYSEXE]

When I take over management or have to repair a VMS system, one of the first thing that I look for is files in directories that they do not belong.

It has always amazed me how badly a VMS system can be configured and it will still be doing useful work.

Thx for your help.
I always used the sysuaf file in [sysmgr].
I felt in exactly that trap.

Before posting the first message I managed to modify the /fillm parameter, but I had no idea how I did this.
No it's clear. My def variable was [sysexe] at that time.

No more VAX hobbyist licenses. Community licenses for Alpha/IA64/X86_64 VMS Software Inc. Commercial VMS software licenses for VAX available from HPE.

Just re-visiting.. No more hobbyist licenses? Is that from vmssoftware.com, no 'community' licenses?

I recall that the disks failed on the public access VMS systems that included Fafner

Anyone know what happened to FAFNER.DYNDS.ORG? I had a hobbyist account here but can longer access the site.

At one time, didn't this web site have a job board? I would love to use my legacy skills one last time in my career.

Eisner, which is currently being moved, got an SSH update and the keys were updated to more modern encryption standards.
