NOTE: For whatever reason, this problem has resolved itself as of Monday morning. Best guess is that indeed HP takes parts of the website down for maintenance on Sundays.
I finally decided to install Samba to my Alphas and stop having to use sftp to get files in and out. I see that the old Samba port has been updated to "Common Internet File System" by HP, and I'm fine with that.
I'm not so fine with finding that I can't download the kit. Last Sunday and again today I tried, and I get past the license acceptance and to the registration form. Attempting to submit the registration form produces a "Security violation, unable to submit form" message from the HP web site. They say that if the problem persists, you should report it to support. OK, so I tried to report it. Fill out a form to describe the error, supply the URL, all my contact data again and again. Click submit. Same "Security violation" error there too.
Either they take part of their system offline on Sundays and I've just been lucky and hit it both times, or their web site is broken. Anyone know? Sunday is when I usually have time to play with hobby systems, but I could probably download this stuff during the week if I must.
Thanks for any ideas.

Further experimentation finds that the problem was the browser in use. Firefox 3.6 on Linux was able to fill out and submit the form, and then download the files. CSWB on the Alpha cannot submit that form without getting a securiity violation. I haven't yet installed the new web browser "based on Seamonkey" so perhaps that would make a difference.
