I want to test the performance of OpenVMS 8.3 on an Alpha emulator in comparison to real hardware.
Do somebody know any software to benchmark an OpenVMS system?
Ideally for this benchmark should exist already a table of benchmarks of Alpha hardware so that I do not need to run it again on different machines. ;-)
Or do anybody know of representative benchmark tests which have been already done?
Especially I am interested in benchmarks for CHARON-AXP. Unfortunately I could find benchmarks for CHARON-VAX only.
there are public SpecInt2000 and SpecFP2000 data available for real Alphas.
Stromasys is in the process of running SPEC2000 performance benchmarks and will publish the data in the future.
Note that you have to buy the SPEC2000 benchmarks sources, if you want to run your own tests.
A very simple CPU performance test would consist of running the CALCULATE_VUPS.COM procedure (from Stromasys) or the VUPS.COM procedure provided for the FreeAXP emulator. Both return different 'VUPS' values, but provide a good approximation of the CPU speed.
