I hate to post a grossly newbie question, but the OpenHobbyist FAQ is a couple of years old, and I wonder if times have changed.

I understand that in order to obtain the PAK's, I need to belong to a user group. Since I live the US, my one choice looks like Encompass. Does Encompass still have a basic member option? I tried to register as an associate, but haven't received a response after several days. As a "regular," non-business individual, should I have registered with the $90/year membership?

I'm looking forward to getting my DEC 4000 AXP server up! I'm very glad to see a group devoted to the care and feeding of hobbyists. Thanks in advance,

Mike

Give them about a week then ask again.
With a DEC4000 you won't need any heating in that room :-)

Hah.. yeah, I may have to alternate off months running to offset my power bill. smiley

Thanks for the heads up. I guess my concern was that the associate program was somehow for "someone else." So is there a free level of membership anymore with Encompass? Or am I just missing it on their webpage?

thanks,
Mike

Well, my faith in the Universe has been restored. I never received a confirmation from Encompass, but I emailed them today. They wrote me back with my login info, and were very helpful. No clue why the confirmation didn't reach me. Spam filters didn't get it.

So, the bottom line- yes you can register as an associate, it is still free. If you haven't heard from them after some time has passed (in my case a week) email them.

Now to get the PAK sorted out and order a CD!

No more VAX hobbyist licenses. Community licenses for Alpha/IA64/X86_64 VMS Software Inc. Commercial VMS software licenses for VAX available from HPE.

Just re-visiting.. No more hobbyist licenses? Is that from vmssoftware.com, no 'community' licenses?

I recall that the disks failed on the public access VMS systems that included Fafner

Anyone know what happened to FAFNER.DYNDS.ORG? I had a hobbyist account here but can longer access the site.

At one time, didn't this web site have a job board? I would love to use my legacy skills one last time in my career.

New Hobbyist PAKs for VAX/VMS are no longer available according to reports. Only commercial licenses are reported to be for sale from HPE

See the forum about licensing. Don't know if HPE hobby licenses still being issued. Commercial licenses still being sold.

Eisner, which is currently being moved, got an SSH update and the keys were updated to more modern encryption standards.
