Hi all,

i need some help on this.

I've install openvms-hobbyist cd v8.3 in DS10. it works. I even installed all the license provided to me.

But everytime i tried to telnet to the box, it says the following:

Welcome to OpenVMS (TM) Alpha Operating System, Version V8.3

Username: system
Password:
No license is active for this software product

its clearly say about user license. I've loaded accordingly all the license and my license still has long time b4 expires (apr 2009).

I can ssh to the box but not telnet. I strongly thinks its related to openvms-alpha-user license. I've unload and reload again but still doesn't works.

What else cld be wrong? Thanks in advance

Hi!

Me thinks you're missing a OpenVMS Alpha base license (named OPENVMS-ALPHA). You can obtain it through a separate licensing step here at openvmshobbyist.org.

Ah ha! A new way to avoid the per-user licensing! SSH!

I like the way they did it for IA64. You get a single FOE/etc PAK and you're pretty much ready to go.

I like the way they did it for IA64. You get a single FOE/etc PAK and you're pretty much ready to go.

Me too. Especially since even the basic FOE PAK covers unlimited users.

What I dislike is the per-core licensing even for compilers. And that AvailMan is not in FOE, but in EOE (I've heard that this is due to the fact that sysadmin tools are licensed in the enterprise class in HP/UX...). But if they did as they said at last year's Bootcamp, the license is (comparatively) cheap.
