I bought the Alpha Kit (v8.3) from Montagar and successfully installed it on my Personal Alpha. This is really cool.
But I don't understand why the kit didn't come with Cobol (It says it should on the media kit page) and I was really looking for FMS which is a layered product.
If anyone knows how this is supposed to work, please post a reply.
Also if you have COBOL and FMS, I'd like a copy, please PM me.

Thanks.
J.D.

COBOL is on the CD I have for Alpha 8.3, presumably the same one you have. I believe it was in the [.kits] subdirectory along with several other languages. You might want to check again for that one. It's probably a .ZIP file that has to be unzipped before installing.

FMS is not provided. There is of course a limit to the amount of material that can be put onto that CD and it is pretty tightly packed already. With luck, someone will lend you the media or make a copy for you. Look for responses here, and try the notes forum on decuserve.org as well. (Registration there is free.)

The best way to get software that is not on the hobbyist distribution is to ask in a new topic here and also on comp.os.vms (plain text only) with a request of what you need, why you need a hobby version of it, and where you are physically located.

That way someone local to you can help you. HP will not allow posting of CD-ROM images on the Public Internet.

No more VAX hobbyist licenses. Community licenses for Alpha/IA64/X86_64 VMS Software Inc. Commercial VMS software licenses for VAX available from HPE.

Just re-visiting.. No more hobbyist licenses? Is that from vmssoftware.com, no 'community' licenses?

I recall that the disks failed on the public access VMS systems that included Fafner

Anyone know what happened to FAFNER.DYNDS.ORG? I had a hobbyist account here but can longer access the site.

At one time, didn't this web site have a job board? I would love to use my legacy skills one last time in my career.

New Hobbyist PAKs for VAX/VMS are no longer available according to reports. Only commercial licenses are reported to be for sale from HPE

See the forum about licensing. Don't know if HPE hobby licenses still being issued. Commercial licenses still being sold.

Eisner, which is currently being moved, got an SSH update and the keys were updated to more modern encryption standards.
