It's some time since I ran OpenVMS and I appear to have lost my sheet of passwords. Is there a simple way of finding what my last used password was - I anticipate having to change to a new one as the last one will have expired.

No, there is no way to retrieve passwords. You will need to do a conversational boot into VMS from the console and set new passwords. |

I've tried to run a conversational boot but I can't get to the $ prompt. I get asked for my username and password and, of course, I get a user authorization failure so I'm completely stuck. |

Panic over. I've successfully done a conversational boot and changed passwords. |
