I'm running SIMH on Windows 10 and I'm wondering if anyone knows of a guide to getting a GUI running on Windows 10? Not that I need to, but I would like to so I can learn more.

I am not sure I have something totally up to date at https://sourceforge.net/p/vms-ports/wiki/Home/

1. Need the DECW workstation component installed on the VAX, along with the Motif product.

2. Get an X-11 emulator running on a system.
Cygwin/X11 needs some patches because in the name of security, it has been modified so that
X11 does not work out of the box for external system access.
I Can not get Mingw X11 to use saved preset settings.

3. Need to get fonts available to the X-11 system. Easiest way is to use an ALPHA or Itanium system running OpenVMS as a font server. Otherwise you have to copy some of the fonts from VAX to the X11 server. Fonts may or many not need conversion. (I have only used the font server method)

Other alternatives may take some programming. Get a Virtual Video buffer ported to OpenVMS get the X11 software to use it, and get the VNC port to VMS working, then you can VNC into the system.

I have heard of some experimental options/forks for adding some graphics hardware emulation on SimH. I have not looked into them.

You can also use one of Matt's VAXstation emulations now in the SIMH trunk that have built in graphical support.

See https://www.9track.net/simh/video/ for more info

No more VAX hobbyist licenses. Community licenses for Alpha/IA64/X86_64 VMS Software Inc. Commercial VMS software licenses for VAX available from HPE.

Just re-visiting.. No more hobbyist licenses? Is that from vmssoftware.com, no 'community' licenses?

I recall that the disks failed on the public access VMS systems that included Fafner

Anyone know what happened to FAFNER.DYNDS.ORG? I had a hobbyist account here but can longer access the site.

At one time, didn't this web site have a job board? I would love to use my legacy skills one last time in my career.

New Hobbyist PAKs for VAX/VMS are no longer available according to reports. Only commercial licenses are reported to be for sale from HPE

Eisner, which is currently being moved, got an SSH update and the keys were updated to more modern encryption standards.
