I am having interesting issue with system time on open VMS 7.2
When i set system time by running "SET TIME" command my time always goes back to November 4 2018.
it does not happen immediately , but within 10-15 minutes system time slowly will be adjusted to 1AM NOV 4 2018.
where should i look? |

There are only three methods that I know of where VMS adjust time automatically.
1. DTSS provided with DECNET.
2. NTP
3. Auto-Daylight savings time setting.
I do not recall any other reports of that behavior.
I would be looking for a command procedure that may have been implemented for setting daylight savings time change.
Turn on image accounting (makes large accounting files) to see what is going on during the time adjustment. (On production systems, I always had image accounting on, with a daily procedure to rotate the accounting log and scan it for unusual activity)
VMS 7.2 is quite a bit out of date. Last VAX/VMS is 7.3, current Alpha is VMS 8.4 from VSI.
It may be a bug in the auto-daylight savings setting, if that old version had the feature. |

I know that it is not ntp.
How can I check auto daylight settings and how can I check dtss?
Sorry for basic questions
Thanks |

The DTSS is usually only installed if you are using DECNet Phase V, otherwise known as DECnet+ and DECnet OSI. When it is present, the SET TIME command will report an error if you try to use it.
I know almost nothing about auto-daylight savings time. I never bothered with that.
The current (hidden well) link to the OpenVMS online documentation is:
http://h30266.www3.hpe.com/odl/i64os/opsys/opsys.htm
I would recommend downloading local copies of the PDF file you are interested in.
