Curiously, has anyone else attempted an install of openVMS on an Integrity Virtual Machine. I know HP doesn't officially support it; however, I'm not sure why technically it wouldn't work.

I, personally, attempted it for the first time this evening and am being presented with the following:

%VMS_LOADER-W-Unable to identify primary console device.
> Select a primary console from the Boot Configuration Menu.
> Attempting to continue with a default console device.

Obviously I can make changes to the console device within the EFI menu; however, I've had no luck this far...

The next version of VMS is scheduled to support running on HP VM. The current one does not.

Thanks for the reply.

Under few circumstances would I say that I *want* to virtualize hardware; however, in this case, I have a limited amount of Integrity hardware devoted to testing. Unfortunately, I there is a need to use the box to do some HPUX 11iv3 / Oracle testing at the same time that I'm exploring VMS / Integrity.

I am most certainly going down the path of asking HP. My rep is actively working on finding out release dates, etc... for the marriage of the two (VMS and HPVM). Yesterday I was able to bring up 8.3 on an rx6600 with little issue, so at the very least I'll be able to do some testing on physical hardware until the box is required elsewhere.

Others may or may not be interested... as I find out more, I certainly update this (or another) thread.

Thanks again!

Well...

It appears that HP - as mentioned in the thread - is going to include OVMS on the upcoming version of HPVM. I just filled out the paperwork that will allow me to take part in the beta-test of coming version which will run atop HP-UX 11iv3/IA64.

Well... aside from a few "bugs", it looks like HPVM on HP-UX 11iv3 supports openVMS. I just finished installing "HP OpenVMS Industry Standard 64 Operating System, Version XBW8-J2I" onto an rx6600 running an instance of 11iV3 / HPVM.

Very interesting indeed....

It also works for me, on an rx2620! I'm running the ‘remastered’ VMS I64 V8.4 on an rx2620 as a guest under HPVM version B.04.20.05.

No more VAX hobbyist licenses. Community licenses for Alpha/IA64/X86_64 VMS Software Inc. Commercial VMS software licenses for VAX available from HPE.

Just re-visiting.. No more hobbyist licenses? Is that from vmssoftware.com, no 'community' licenses?

I recall that the disks failed on the public access VMS systems that included Fafner

Anyone know what happened to FAFNER.DYNDS.ORG? I had a hobbyist account here but can longer access the site.

At one time, didn't this web site have a job board? I would love to use my legacy skills one last time in my career.

New Hobbyist PAKs for VAX/VMS are no longer available according to reports. Only commercial licenses are reported to be for sale from HPE

Eisner, which is currently being moved, got an SSH update and the keys were updated to more modern encryption standards.
