I want to put a SAS controller on rx2660 Integrity server, but what is the right card:
HP Integrity Smart Array P400 SAS Controller PCIe
or
HP Smart Array P400 8-Port 256MB SAS RAID Controller
Thanks

Both sound like the same thing to me, just different descriptions... |

The first description specifies PCIe.
Does the R2660 have PCIe expansion slots, or just PCI/PCI-X?

That's a very modern system for a hobbyist. The rx2660 has a choice of i/O so it can be all PCI-X or a combination of PCI express and PCI-X

The second doesn't specify anything. So, what's your point?

It depends on your card cage obviously, PCI-X (3 slots) only or PCie (2 slots) and PCI-X (1 slot) mostly, from what I've gathered from the freely available manuals.

Indeed, that's one of the first things that struck me. As they say in Dutch, perhaps it was van de vrachtwagen gevallen.

No point. I have heard of a few cases where people overlook that little "e" and buy a PCIe card instead of PCI or vice versa and end up with something that isn't what they wanted. It would be disappointing to buy a nice RAID card and have it not fit. Maybe it isn't an issue here.
Sounds like a nice system at any rate, whatever expansion cage it has. I wish I was in a position to need to ask what parts are suitable for something like that. |
