I used VMS for the first time 3 years ago. I worked in TRIUMF, a particle accelerator facility in Vancouver as part of my Co-op program and developed tomography reconstruction software that they can use for monitorinig the beamline. The server that they use for the entire cyclotron control is VMS - one online and one running as a backup. And they have been doing that for many years.
I always wanted to learn more about the system, but other duties (college, work) kind of stepped in the way. I am currently looking for a way to acquire Alpha/Itanium with VMS, so that I can learn more about the system. I currently work as a system administrator for an ISP provider. We use Linux and Windows servers only.
I have to admit that I have very limited experience with VMS (only as an end user).
