Hi all,

I am a research student at University of Houston. I have been working with OpenVMS team in India for about 3yrs before this. I am interested to evaluate how OpenMP scales on OpenVMS, and believe would get some interesting results on OpenVMS as it supports kernel threads and upcalls.

I wanted to check if I can get any help in this forum, to get access a OpenVMS test system, where I can build OpenMP, and run some benchmarks.

Alternatively we have an 16cpu Itanium box, here in our university, which is running linux. I dint really understand what are the steps to follow, to get OpenVMS media or license for students, so that I can install it on our system here.

Any help is really appreciated.

Regards,
Ram

Just to check, you wish to have access to a multi-CPU system to try some on scaling? I assume something current preferred?

Is there a minimum number of CPUs?

Alternatively if you could get media and licence for OpenVMS I64 you could run it on your 16Cpu Itanium system - is that a HP Integrity server or was it made by someone else?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

Basically I would be compiling our OpenMP implementation on the OpenVMS itanium system, and running a benchmark called EPCC to see the performance. A minimum of 16 CPUs would be great. But i can start off with 4 as well.

I am guessing that the system we have is from HP, but might have to cross check about that.

Regards,
Ram

No more VAX hobbyist licenses. Community licenses for Alpha/IA64/X86_64 VMS Software Inc. Commercial VMS software licenses for VAX available from HPE.

Just re-visiting.. No more hobbyist licenses? Is that from vmssoftware.com, no 'community' licenses?

I recall that the disks failed on the public access VMS systems that included Fafner

Anyone know what happened to FAFNER.DYNDS.ORG? I had a hobbyist account here but can longer access the site.

At one time, didn't this web site have a job board? I would love to use my legacy skills one last time in my career.

New Hobbyist PAKs for VAX/VMS are no longer available according to reports. Only commercial licenses are reported to be for sale from HPE

See the forum about licensing. Don't know if HPE hobby licenses still being issued. Commercial licenses still being sold.

Eisner, which is currently being moved, got an SSH update and the keys were updated to more modern encryption standards.
