I cut my teeth on DEC equipment in college, specifically RSX, which I thought was the cat's meow, until I got dragged unceremoniously in to the VMS world, drank the async I/O koolaid, and never looked back.
Spent 15 years at DEC, and I still own my "parting gift" from Compaq: A VaxStation 3100 with two expansion boxes, and dual monitors (color and mono), and both an Alpha and Intel Multia.
I don't get to use VMS professionally any more, but it was definitely my first love with regard to programming environments.
I finally wandered in here because I'm having trouble find Encompasserve, which was my primary VMS resource/connection.

Hi Jim,
DECUSserve/Encompasserve has been down since before the New Year with HW problems (RAID controller). It might be back soon, or not, if the HW problem remains hard to deal with.
C.O.V. is currently carrying a thread with some detail, and Arnold.com has a mailing list (Eisner) with more detail ([email protected]).

Welcome, Jim.
As of April 2008 I too am not currently using VMS professionally, but I do have it at home on a DS10 and would love to find an Integrity server that fit my budget. If one can be had for a song, I've been told I have a decent singing voice . Right now I can't afford the under-$200 Integrity systems that have been showing up on eBay, considering that all I want it for is a little fun, and I seldom get a chance to even power up my DS10 (which was free).
From 1999 to 2002 I was out of circulation as far as VMS. There's still a little prospect it could show up again in my future, back at the other office I was working at before April (same company as now). Bbut I'm not holding my breath...
