Hello.
I wasn't sure where to post my question, as it doesn't fit well to any particular section.
I happen to possess an old box based on dual Itaniums (the very first model, with "Merced" core). The box is labeled as an engineering sample, not for sale or lease, and was distributed among selective partners of Intel, before the official CPU release.
I've heard from few people that it might be possible to run OpenVMS on my machine, namely the VMS8.2-IA64 version. Do you reckon it is true? And, if so, what are the chances that I will ever find such a distribution of OpenVMS? If not, then what operating system would you suggest me to try to find for it, besides GNU/Linux?
Just in case it'll make anything clearer, here are some pictures of the box: http://www.ishells.net/spy/itanium/.
Thanks in advance. |

I guess I could try to install OpenVMS on my box, but I've got a problem: I don't live near any participating user groups, so I can't choose from given options during the hobbyist registration process. The page advises to contact the site authorities, so I did via a special form, but got no reply in 5 days. Should I wait more, or ask for help elsewhere? |

After two months of inactivity, I received my DECUS membership number and requested the OpenVMS Integrity licence. However, there's one thing still unclear to me: is purchasing CD's the only way of getting the OpenVMS distribution, or is there an option for online downloading (which would be highly desirable)? |

The US, Germany, and UK all accept memberships from people of other countries, so you should be able to pick one of them. These three are the most active Chapters. |
