i want to do a FULL backup of our system disks running open vms 6.1.1. I have tried using the ignore=(interlock) command but files that are open are still not being backed up. What qualifiers do i use to backup ALL the files even if they are open.

Please email me at [email protected]

Thanks in advance!!

BACKUP was never intended to provide copies of open files that were/are consistant. There are file that are not necessarily relevant on a "restore" operation that can be copied in some form. The pagefile is an example. In this case the particulars about the file are saved, but not the contents (the file is actually marked as no-backup.) Other user files should not be viewed as saved unless the backup operation is done with the file closed.

Database files can be saved using the utilities supplied by the database vendor and can be done without "closing" the files as the utility handles all of the coordination required for a valid database backup file.

If you are getting no contents at all, I would look to see how the file is marked. Even with the IGNORE=INTERLOCK enabled, the file should have contents, just not the most recent potentially.

More information is required to see what your problem really is.

No more VAX hobbyist licenses. Community licenses for Alpha/IA64/X86_64 VMS Software Inc. Commercial VMS software licenses for VAX available from HPE.

Just re-visiting.. No more hobbyist licenses? Is that from vmssoftware.com, no 'community' licenses?

I recall that the disks failed on the public access VMS systems that included Fafner

Anyone know what happened to FAFNER.DYNDS.ORG? I had a hobbyist account here but can longer access the site.

At one time, didn't this web site have a job board? I would love to use my legacy skills one last time in my career.

New Hobbyist PAKs for VAX/VMS are no longer available according to reports. Only commercial licenses are reported to be for sale from HPE

Eisner, which is currently being moved, got an SSH update and the keys were updated to more modern encryption standards.
