I need help with the licensing process, some sources say HP is still giving out VAX licenses while other sources say they aren't. I have sent two requests using this form: https://www.hpe.com/h41268/live/index_e.aspx?qid=24548 however I have not heard back. What should I do? I have checked bitsavers.org but they only have OpenVMS 1 - 5 and I ideally want OpenVMS 7.3. |

HP is no longer issuing OpenVMS hobbyist licenses. To my knowledge, there is no source for free VAX VMS licenses. VSi has a program for Alpha and Itanium OpenVMS licenses. The license can be used with FreeAXP. See this link:

Ah, I was hoping to get a VAX license... is there anything that can be done or will I have to give up on the VAX idea? |

If you're willing to pay for a VAX license, HPE will still sell you one. But getting one for free? No legal way to do so, as far as I know. |

I am not willing to pay for a license (nor do I have the money!) and as no one has uploaded a copy to bitsavers or archive.org, I guess I won't be getting it from there either...
Guess I'll have to give up then...

You can sometimes purchase used licenses from legacy hardware suppliers. They are pretty inexpensive for small systems. |

I just noticed that my Hobbyist licensing for my VAX expired last year (Jan 1, 2022), probably like most people here. Luckily I have some permanent licenses for the few things that I really need to use on these boxes. Ironically, my Alphas and my IA64s are largely dropping like flies due to things like CPU fans and there is no easy way to find replacements that aren't also worn out (... or they suck a ton of power).
Has anybody published a synopsis of available options to progress this issue, or is it like it looks: there aren't any? I would pay a *reasonable* price, but have yet to see any such thing published.
Is there any VAX MultiNet licensing legally available?
Editorial Comment:
It is rather shoddy to just walk away from a product like this, in effect killing it or forcing folks to take matters into their own hands. Luckily I have permanent VMS single user, TCP/IP, and C Compiler licenses, and they have been nice enough to provide us BLISS as a freebie, so I can limp along, but it would be nice to be able to play with a bit more stuff.
Better burn this stuff (what I have) on MULTIPLE CDs though!!!
Cheers Folks!

You might want to check here: https://multinet.process.com/license.html
It doesn't specifically mention VAX or Alpha or IA64 or x86, but perhaps that's a good thing.
