Dear Forum,
I'm running a VAX 4000-105A in offline mode and need to install new licenses. I got the licenses using mail and I need to copy the file to a CD.
I tried several CD's but no one would be mounted on the VAX.
Does anyone has a step-by-step instruction how to create a CD on current hardware to be mounted on a VAX 4000-105A?
Any hints would be helpful.
Kind regards,
Rainer |

Your options are hook up a network or type the licenses into the system.
If you have another VMS system available, it is possible to create a dual format CD using these instructions: http://www.migrationspecialties.com/pdf/ODS-ISO.pdf |

My VAX is not connected to my network (not yet). Typing the licenses is possible but horrible.
And unfortunately I have only one VAX.
Could it be possible that the VAX will only recognize 650MB CD's and not the 700 MB disks?

No, it requires a CD formatted with the Files-11 file system. |

Hi Bruce,
do you know a program which could create a Files-11 files system to be able to be written onto a CD? I have access to Linux, Windows and Mac OS.
Many thanks in advance.
Kind regards,

Dear all,
I found a solution for me:
1. Transfer the license file to PowerMac G4
2. Rename the file too LIZENZ.TXT
3. Create ISO using mkisofs -iso-level 1
4. Burn the ISO file to CD using standard disk utility program
5. CD could be mounted on VAX 4000-105A
6. User is happy :-) |
