What is the OpenVMS Hobbyist Program?
The OpenVMS Hobbyist Program is a program from HP and OpenVMS engineering that enables OpenVMS enthusiasts throughout the world to obtain OpenVMS Operating System Licenses and over 100 OpenVMS layered products for their VAX, Alpha or Itanium hardware for Individual use and education.
What is the cost for participating in this program and getting the Licenses?
There is no cost for participating, receiving and using the License PAKS for the OpenVMS Hobbyist Program. The recipients of this grant are bound by the grant's Terms and Conditions which protect HP's copyrights and intellectual property invested in OpenVMS.
Just what are the Terms & Conditions of the OpenVMS Hobbyist Program?
The Ts&Cs is the actual contract that HP lawyers insist be adheredto by Hobbyists using HP intellectual property under this grant. The Ts&Cs are detailed on the OpenVMS Hobbyist WEBpage when you apply for the OpenVMS Hobbyist PAKs. This contract represents the legal commitment of both parties (Hobbyists and HP) with regards to use and what cconstitutesHobbyist activities.
The sprit of the Ts&Cs has been and continues to be a source that makes OpenVMS Software available to Hobbyists, Collectors, and Individuals for personal experimentation, education, and growth in enterprise technologies associated with VAX, Alpha and Itanium systems. It is not ment to be a replacement for any other of the HP business programs for OpenVMS software development or other software grants.
OpenVMS Hobbyist PAKS may not be used in commercial enterprises, or for any other purpose except Hobbyist activities.
The OpenVMS Hobbyist Program recognizes that equipment/systems used by individuals may or may not have a maintenance pedigree, or even a bill of sale.
For OpenVMS Licensing purposes, an individual Hobbyist being in possession and control of a VAX, Alpha or Itanium HW platform, who is a registered member of Encompass or DECUS, may receive the Hobbyist license PAKS granted from this program terms. This program does not provide any hardware
ownership credentials, a bill of sale would do that.;-)
How many systems can I get OpenVMS Licenses for with this Program?
How many do you have:-) The current limit to OpenVMS Cluster members is 96 supported, (128 unsupported;-) If you have that many systems at your house we want a Picture (or two;-) for the Hobbyist Gallery!!
What about support for the VAX Emulators?
Emulators will work with the licenses, but getting the distributions loaded and running is the entertaining part.
