Say I wanted to use MMOV on OpenVMS 8.3.
What sound cards are supported.
Would a "Creative labs Ensoniq Audio PCI sound card 5000" - with es1371 chip do the job?
Or an "Ensoniq model 5200 PCI sound card with creative es1373 audio chipset"

I am using an unsupported controller that clue config identifies as Ensoniq AudioPCI.
It must be one of PCI ids 0x13711274 or 0x58801274 since those are the only two in the sys$user_config.dat file on my system. It is using a patched driver for VMS 8.3/8.4, not the stock driver.
I have not been using MMOV much because the Radeon Video card is too advanced for the supplied
Do you have any way of finding out the PCI ids for your cards?
If you install MMOV, it updates sys$system:user_config.dat with the PCI ids of the sound cards that it supports.

Well I haven't obtained any cards yet, I do not want to buy one off fleabay and find out it doesn't work because it wasn't the exact one required. I'm not after video, just the audio part, so I can use the DS10 like a jukebox or something.
I see Island is selling a card known to work, but it's kinda pricey.

Sorry that I can not help you with a quick and cheap solution.
I picked up the card from the local computer store, and at the time I worked a few cubes away from the MMOV driver maintainer who found out why the existing driver did not work right.
What I have been more interested in looking at is a network driver setup, where the audio from the VMS system is streamed to a x86 or Android system and decoded there.
That would add audio support to an emulator, and machines that could not support audio cards.
There appear to be some standards in the APIs and protocols involved. |

Is there any kind of network audio playing software? |

Anyone know where I could get the elusive mmov 202-1-1? The one out there, fails to load the AU device and there are no instructions I can find anywhere on how to fix it.
Compaq Ensoniq 3X-AVH10-AA is the device.
It would be greatly appreciated if someone could point me to the working version. |

I was not able to find the PCI ID with a system /analyze, the output was unclear. All I know is that the sound card was sold by the vendor as being Alphaserver PCI.

It's very strange, I ordered what was clearly listed as an Ensoniq from island and it turns out that it's a compaq premier sound CT5805? The analyze system shows it identifying itself as an ensoniq PCI.
So wtf.

Ok, never mind, the audio officially works now. Seems that the autogenerated config refers to a driver that does not exist, but the one I received from an undisclosed location was named right and the AU device appeared at reboot. Now I've got it playing music.
Thanks to those who made it possible. |
