Hi,

The company I now work for recently upgraded to IA64 and have the following systems collecting dust...

ES40 * 2 (one powers up fine, the other shows a fan error)
(Rack Mounted together)
DS20 * 2
DS10 * 1

Memory Channel Hub with 4 connections. All systems except 1 DS20
have memory channel cards.

2nd Cabinet is HSG80 with 6 racks of disks, mostly populated.

They were under support until the end of last year and I can find PAKs for layered products and some Alpha-OpenVMS licenses.

Management would like to get some value out of them.. Any suggestions on resellers? I found one that will give us $700 for all the Alphas.

Are hobbyists buying systems? Lots of un-bid ebay auctions...

Located in the NYC area.

Thanks,
Jeff Friedrichs

I'll just note that most of the "unbid" ebay auctions are starting at prices much too high for a typical hobbyist bidder. Realistically, no one values a DS10 at $995, let alone $1,995 as I have seen... except a corporate buyer who is locked into an existing configuration and needs an immediate replacement for damaged or failed hardware. Those people are being held to ransom.

The rest of us have to settle for what we can scrounge outside of auction or reseller realms.

Beware of the $700 offer. The buyer may well be an aftermarket reseller who will reprice these items at 10 times what they give you.

No more VAX hobbyist licenses. Community licenses for Alpha/IA64/X86_64 VMS Software Inc. Commercial VMS software licenses for VAX available from HPE.

Just re-visiting.. No more hobbyist licenses? Is that from vmssoftware.com, no 'community' licenses?

I recall that the disks failed on the public access VMS systems that included Fafner

Anyone know what happened to FAFNER.DYNDS.ORG? I had a hobbyist account here but can longer access the site.

At one time, didn't this web site have a job board? I would love to use my legacy skills one last time in my career.

New Hobbyist PAKs for VAX/VMS are no longer available according to reports. Only commercial licenses are reported to be for sale from HPE

See the forum about licensing. Don't know if HPE hobby licenses still being issued. Commercial licenses still being sold.

Eisner, which is currently being moved, got an SSH update and the keys were updated to more modern encryption standards.
